Abstract

Of all crimes causing insecurity which Nigeria has been battling with for decades, the worst and most traumatic are kidnapping and terrorism. Kidnapping and abduction have risen to a very high level in Nigeria despite government efforts to arrest the situation. Therefore, this study aims at examining the two crimes; their nature, causes, consequences and, most especially, legal frameworks against them. This paper adopts doctrinal research method, specifically library-based research. The paper’s findings include weaknesses of the legal frameworks among others. The paper fins further that perpetrators of both offences are formidable against the laws. Therefore, this study suggests proper review of the laws to take care of the challenges posed by the perpetrators. It is the conclusion that high probability of arrest of the perpetrators and effective enforcement of the reviewed laws against the crimes will arrest the menace of kidnapping and terrorism.
